Doggie Treats: Fruits and Vegetables

Doggie Treats: Fruits and Vegetables

It would not hurt if we give our dogs healthy doggie treats to reward them for their good behavior or to just add variety to their diet. There is a wide range of treats that we can choose from, but we have to make sure that they are not only appetizing but also healthy and safe. Certain fruits and vegetables are appetizing and healthy treats for dog, and there are ones that should not be given to them.
The fruits that are safe to give to dogs include cantaloupe, blueberries, and apples. These fruits contain various nutrients that protect them from health conditions and diseases. Cantaloupe and watermelon, for instance, help reduce the risk of cancer. Furthermore, apples are powerful antioxidants. However, make sure that you remove the seeds of the apples before giving them to your dogs.

Certain vegetables are also good doggie treats. These include green beans, spinach, and asparagus. Green beans and asparagus are good sources of Vitamin A and C. Besides these vitamins, green beans are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, manganese, and beta carotene. Spinach, moreover, help prevent inflammatory and cardiovascular issues.

On the other hand, there are certain fruits and vegetables that are not safe for dogs. These include grapes, avocados, tomatoes, and raw and green potatoes. Garlic, onions, mushrooms, tree nuts, such as pecans, walnuts, and pistachios, may also be harmful for dogs.

Furthermore, meat-based treats such as chicken jerky treats provide the nutrients that fruits and vegetables may not provide. Eggs and oatmeal are other healthy options. Be sure, though, that they are properly cooked, and you do not add any salt, pepper, or any flavoring to them.

To sum up, doggie treats should be given with utmost care. It may be tempting to give dogs whatever treat we think they would like, but their health should be our top priority.
